11/2 - New Elders, Buildings

Two new missionaries, Elders Larson and Legerski, arrived from the MTC in Ghana and the mission president came to welcome and train them.  They seem well prepared and we’re excited to start getting our first new missionaries in our new mission.  Missionaries have been going home without being replaced since the mission opened in July.  I guess the Lord is being very choosy and only sending us the best of the best.

Our plans to divide the Douala Branch are moving forward and it is exciting.  We might divide it into three with two meetinghouses.  We’re still unsure about whether we will be able to build a temporary chapel quickly or find a place to rent within two months before we are forced to leave our meetinghouse.  It is up to the Church Temporal Affairs leaders.

We drove the branch leaders out to look at a possible meetinghouse near the Church-owned land.  The house is nice and has space to add a temporary chapel and other rooms on the property.  President Nkong says that it would take 2 weeks to do all of the construction that we need.  The rent is very low.  The only negative is that it is about a half-kilometer up a difficult dirt road.

We met with the owner of the meetinghouse in Bonaberi.  He wants to sell the property including the building in front.  The mission president wants to buy it.  Now he will try to get approval.  We love that bright, cheery meetinghouse that is always immaculate.  And if we fix up the other building we will finally have enough classrooms.

Every week we pass this dry cleaner with an interesting name.
